Red Apple Reading Program Review + Giveaway

Red Apple Reading is a reading program for kids that helps and assist your kids with their learning Journey.  It uses fun and games to encourage your child to learn to read or read better.

The site is very vivid and great animation.  I homeschool my son who is 12 but is autistic and is really struggling with reading.  He know his sounds but still can not put them together to read.  My son really loved trying this program.  I was really surprised how much it kept his attention since he does have ADD.  The programs where easy for him to navigate.  It is great because it puts no pressure on him to learn right away.  He can go as slow or as fast as possible.

You can go to the parent center and check the kids progress.  That is so great because as a teacher I really like to know how my child is improving.

Overall, I did not try this very long yet but I really love it because my son does.  This program will help your child succeed in school while giving them a boost of self esteem.

My Thoughts:  My son tried this program on a Ipad for a bit and was almost Instantly hooked.  The pictures are very bright and vivid and keeps your childs attention. (Which is hard for a child with Autism and ADD.)  There are quite a few different activities for your child to engage in, from Tracing words to phonics and more.  The Montessori method as you know is my favorite method of teaching and child development.  This app follows the Montessori method and makes learning faster and fun at the same time. Overall, this app was extremely eye pleasing and very encouraging for special needs or young children.

As most of you know I am almost a special educator and just have a few more classes to go.  The teacher in me highly recommends this for prep before Kindergarten.  If you know the Montessori method and the results you know it is never to soon to start your child from learning.  Children learn the most within the first 5 years of life.  It is also easier for the child to learn in this time frame.  I highly recommend this program both as a Mom and a Teacher.

The only thing I can say I found that wasn't my favorite was that the extras have to be purchased.  That did not worry us much since they are low priced and in my mind very worth the cost.

Phonics and Reading with McGuffey for iPad

This program takes the McGuffey method of reading and puts it in a great little app.  If you are not familiar with it I recommend you check out the McGuffy Eclectic Primer.   McGuffy was a famous teacher that designed one of the best learning methods in history.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McGuffey_Readers

In this app you can add 10 different users and it keeps all the results separated.  Simply start at the beginning or skip ahead to your child's level.  This is a great early phonics program that every homeschool should use in my opinion.  There is 52 lessons that engage any age to the amazing fun of learning.  The interface is very easy to use and keeps children attention.

I feel this product is one of the best I have tried for my son.  He still has problems once in a  while and needs extra help.  He easily breezes through the lessons and has fun while he is doing it. This is now apart of our daily lesson plans and am really happy with his results.
